Roy was born in Chicago, and spent his formative years in Downers Grove , Illinois.  Roy graduated from Downers Grove Community High School South.   He attended Greenville College before transferring to Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois, graduating with a B.A. degree, majoring in Philosophy.

Roy received the M.Div. degree with a concentration in systematic theology from Eden Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri .  M. Douglas Meeks was his master’s thesis advisor.   His ordination as a Deacon and Elder in the former Southern Illinois Conference of the  United Methodist Church lead to  pastoring congregations in Worden, Hoyleton, Okawville, Wood River, Pocahontas, Panama, Alton (Grace) and Elsah.

While in the pastorate, Roy worked on a Ph.D. in historical theology at St. Louis University, completing 30 hours before shifting his focus upon the law.  The late Judge John DeLaurenti  and wife Leanne strongly encouraged this vocational change.  In 1993, Roy received a J.D. degree, graduating from St. Louis University School of Law.  Following graduation, he passed both the Illinois and Missouri bar exams, and began clerking for the late Federal District Judge Paul E. Riley in East St. Louis, Illinois. During this clerkship he drafted civil, criminal, and prisoner orders and memoranda of law.

Private practice followed in 1996 with the Plaintiffs’ law firm of Sorrell and Traube in St. Louis,  concentrating on personal injury and workers’ compensation claims.  Mr. Anderson did all the pretrial discovery and motions in Usselton v. AIG, resulting in what was then the largest recovery for a client at civil trial in the history of this law practice.

Roy again returned to the federal court for an interim clerkship with Chief District Judge G. Patrick Murphy in 2004, with concentration on the criminal docket.  He accepted a defense attorney position with Reed, Armstrong in Edwardsville, Illinois, resulting in significant growth of their workers compensation practice.

2008 brought a Principal attorney contract with Amelung , Wulff, et al. in St. Louis. When this firm was absorbed by Evans & Dixon in 2009, preliminary plans for opening Anderson Law commenced.
Roy purchased the current office and adjoining lots in September of 2009, and began renovations while returning to plaintiffs’ work at Mateyka and Associates in Granite City, Illinois.

Anderson Law Office is a work in progress, representing  clients in general legal practice beginning September, 2010.   Adjacent property was purchased with an eye to enhancing the Marine community.
